Thumbnails Not Showing in Windows Explorer After Installing CDGS X6/X7

Note: (Instructions for X7 are in parentheses).

If you have both CorelDraw Graphics Suite X5 and CDGS X6 installed (or X6 and X7), it is recommended to have the  X6 (X7)shell extension. In Windows Control Panel, check to see which shell extension is installed. You should see 16.0... (or 17.0...) in the Version column.

If you do not see the version 16 shell extension (or X7 version), you may need to install it, or do Repair from the DVD. See this knowledge base article.

If you have version 16 (17) then do this...

1. Right click any .cdr file and click properties.

2. Under General Tab, click Change button...

3. In the new dialog that opens up, you'll see all CorelDRAW program icons (depending on CDGS versions you  have installed). Select X6 CorelDRAW version (or X7 CorelDRAW version). Click OK and close all dialog boxes.

4. You may need to repeat the steps for Photo-Paint files, choosing the X6 (or X7) version of Photo-Paint.

On my system the above shell and properties items are correct...I un-installed  both X5 & X6 then reinstalled X6, updated to X6.2, then reinstall the extras (Content)...Now when opening Connect either from within Corel Draw or Standalone, at the library's sidebar in addition to the stock photo folders there is Corel Content & CDGS X6 Content folder options.

The icons display correctly within the Corel Content folder/directory

Within the CDGS X6 only the default green pencil thumbs are displayed.

So the question is what is the difference between the  Corel Content & CDGS X6 Content folder options? As the clip art files seem to be duplicated, although I did not review all file by file..

I had the same problem with thumbnails and just resolved it finally today. I uninstalled Corel Draw x5 Shell Extentions via Programs and Features, then I did a "modify" to the Corel Draw X6 install and under the "utitlites" tab, you should have the option to install Shell Extentions for Corel x6.  I did this and wahla...the thumbnails are back..!  I struggled with this for over a year...!

I had this problem of thumbnails not displaying, and resolved it by "File" then "Open" and when list of .cdr files displayed, note top right hand corner on same bar as the question mark, or 3 buttons you can press. One turns the preview on and off. Hopefully with the amount of discussion on this and other Forums, that X7 has this sorted out.
