I've been using Corel Draw since way back and am still using Corel Draw 11.
Only for one reason, the Snap to grid!

Now I want to move on to X5 and have tried all ways to make the snap snap like it did in pre 12 versions. Been googling around, searching forums etc, but still no solution.

Know what I'm talking about? Let's say I'm drawing rectangles. I want all 4 corners to snap to the grid, regardless of how uncarefully I draw them or move them around, regardless of the zoom level, with no possibility to make them snap between the grid!

Is there a solution or am I forced to use version 11 until I die? :)

WOW,  OK I too was completely frustrated with this change. I actually had a 3 week email session with corel draw, looking for an answer.  They finally told me that it works as intended.

I wouldn't settle and after months of tinkering and menu searching and cussing the new corel X5,I stumbled upon a setting that fixes the problem for good.

***SO HERE IT IS PEOPLE, THE FIX TO ALL OUR COMPLAINTS.***         With no help from Corel, might I add

TOOLS / CUSTOMIZATION / SNAP TO OBJECTS / SNAPPING RADIUS

i CHANGED MINE TO 35.  WOW now from 35 pixels away it will snap to any snap to function you have turned on.   (snap to grid) check  (snap to Guidelines) check  (snap to objects) check

Now why have all these disgruntled lifelong users of corel been punished for so long.   Com-on Corel get it together and get some support.

Try View - Setup - Grid and Ruler setup - tick off snap to grid

Thanks for you try to help!

But Snap to grid is what I want! Let's compare to maximum zoom in Photoshop or any other pixel based program. Thats how I want it. With no possibility to draw or move the pixels off grid while Snap is turned on. ONLY be able to place the nodes strictly on grid.

That's how to Snap to grid worked in Corel Draw until version 12.

Hi

Try increasing the value in: options / workspace / snap to objects 'snapping radius'.

How much might depend on the kind of grid you have set up and zoom level.

Hope it helps

Thanks!

But that option is only for Object snapping. I want Snap to GRID! And the GRID "snapping radius" strictly set to 100%, independent of zoom level.

Guess it's impossible. Have to keep my version 11! :)

Did you try it? I did and it seemed to do what you wanted...

Do you mean more "magnetic power" or more exact adjust? You can setup the precision under Tools/Options/Edit

To make myself clearer. These red squares shall be impossible to draw. They are off grid. And the green squares shall be impossible to move or resize into the red ones positions or sizes, neither be able to dragged into off grid positions.

Simply 100% strict snap to grid, no matter zoom level or which point youre dragging an object!

As far I understand, what you want is more "magnetic power" on the snap to grid, as older versions... sorry, I believe is not longer possible.

Seems to work fine here Zoomed to 672%

Version 11:

Version X4:

Still works the same way, although the interface may have changed, and I am sure the same holds true for X5 (which I don't own).

Let not the one who says it can't be done interrupt the one who is doing it.

Hi Graewerld,

here is the X5 version

Maybe you should explain why you want to make it impossible to have objects off the grid? (what's your workflow? )

It's easy to get the 'good!' results in >12  (although still possible to do that 'bad!', if you want), but I suppose this doesnt' work for you?

As far I understand, on previous versions the "magnetic field" was stronger, and force you to snap to the grid. On newest version you can snap to the edge or not, Is better for most users, but he want to have the old "magnetic power"

Not just _stronger_. It was 100% correct. ;)

Still works the same way

I wish.

Simply because I switched Snap to grid on for a reason. Let's say I want to draw a "pixel font". Then I want everything to be ON grid ALL THE TIME. 100% TIGHT snapping ALWAYS.

Yeah, it's possible to make mistakes.. That's the problem. I have to check and correct everything I do all the time because Corel doesn't snap correctly. Need to be careful when drawing, can't zoom in too much because Corel lose it's "magnetic power", need to be careful where I place the mouse when moving objects so it doesn't snap the mouse position instead of the object, need to check where I drop an object so it doesnt get between the grid lines, need to check everything afterwards, need to do things twice where Corel missed it. The workflow get SO much slower. Instead of just being creative....

Doesn't anyone I agree?

Thank you all for trying to help me. But I'm pretty sure there isn't a solution. I need to continue with Corel Draw 11. :)

Fortunately there's even a Mac version of 11. Just too bad that version sucks big cocks hehe. More buggy than any PC version ever released.

Mac + Parallels + XP + Corel 11 :D
